Kalangala Health Center IV

Kalangala Health Centre IV (HC IV) is a vital government healthcare facility located in the heart of the Ssese Islands in Kalangala District, Uganda. Operating under the Kalangala District Local Government and the Ministry of Health, the centre provides comprehensive medical services to the island communities, ensuring that every resident has access to quality healthcare. Opened in 1949, Kalangala HC IV serves as the district hospital, catering to patients from various parishes, including Bunyama, Bujjumba, and Kayunga, as well as neighboring sub-counties like Mugoye, Bufumira, Bubeke, and Kyamuswa. The patient demographics range from children to the elderly, encompassing both males and females.

Financed and supported by the Government of Uganda through the National Medical Stores and various non-profit implementing partners, Kalangala HC IV is committed to saving lives, handling emergencies, and improving community health through quality curative, promotive, and preventive health services. The centre’s mission is to deliver healthcare programmes that meet national and international standards and priorities.

In addition to its healthcare services, Kalangala HC IV provides valuable education opportunities to medical students from various medical schools in Uganda and abroad. This initiative allows students to gain practical experience and training in a diverse and dynamic healthcare setting, contributing to their professional development and enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery in the region.

The vision of Kalangala HC IV is to develop into a reconstructed district hospital equipped with competent, multi-skilled staff, and modern facilities and equipment that align with contemporary district, national, and international demands. The organisational structure of the center is led by the In-Charge (Senior Medical Officer), followed by the Senior Nursing Officer, Medical Officers, and Allied Health Professionals, ensuring a well-coordinated and efficient delivery of healthcare services.
